Well, the last show of 2010 is now behind us and I have to say it was a success! Gunnar took Best of Breed both days and showed well in groups for me. Birdy was entered into a B Match in the 3-6 month class. After winning breed, she went on to win the Sporting Group! This is the second Group 1 win she has had at a match! She just might turn out to be an OK show dog! :)

Now we will turn our focus to the field for the next few months! We have a lease up in Oklahoma this year, and we look forward to spending some time out there letting the dogs hunt wild quail!

On Saturday, Gunnar earned another leg toward his Senior Hunter title!! He had a find early on in the course, which was good as it was warming up fast and scenting conditions were tough (no wind and very humid). He hunted hard the entire time, and that one find was good enough for the pass. He had a beautiful honor on course so no call backs were required! Sunday, he (and all the other senior dogs) went birdless. It was even warmer than the day before and even harder to scent the birds for the dogs. But we’ll take the pass from Saturday! Half way there Gunnar!!

Gunnar got his first qualifying run toward his Senior Hunter title! He was one of only three dogs to pass today in the Master/Senior level. There were multiple coveys on course with birds walking everywhere which is what caused many dogs not to pass.

Gunnar had two stop to flushes, and pointed a covey of at least 10 that were moving from one area to the field toward the tree line. All the birds took off when I flushed and the gunner (Shawn) was able to take a bird down. Gunnar stayed steady through the flush and stayed until I sent him for the retrieve. What a good boy! He received great scores of mostly 9’s and one 10 in trainability! Needless to say, we are proud of him!

So I’m a little late in posting, but Gunnar got BOB #16 at the dog show in Belton, TX on October 23rd! He showed very well in groups for me as well!!

We have been busy the past two weekends training for upcoming hunt tests. Gunnar will attempt his first senior level test this coming weekend. I know he has all the skills…hopefully he’ll put them all together in the same 30 minutes!

Birdy turned 3 months old last Thursday, so she qualified to be entered in the 3-6 month old class in the AKC Sanctioned B Match at the Canton shows on Saturday. This would be her show ring debut and since she and I have not practiced too much, I wanted to enter  her for socialization and fun. Of course she had fun since she got fed almost the entire time in the ring and you could definitely tell by her ever constant wiggle butt! We were the only entry for breed, so she automatically got Best of Breed. Then we went into the Group. When we made the cut, I was thrilled!! The judge had us all go around one more time and then she picked Birdy for the Group One win!! What a great debut!!

Well, we have a new addition to our family! I would like to introduce Dynata’s Bound to Get Birdy at RedPointe, A.K.A. Birdy. She flew home with me on Saturday 9/11 and is adjusting well to her new environment and brothers and sisters! Ready or not, here she comes!

I’m proud to announce Gunnar is now Grand Champion Dynata’s Bound to Huntmore JH!! He went Best of Breed both days at the Longview show to finish his new title. Gunnar finished his title in 4 weekends of shows with all majors – 6 Best of Breed wins and 1 Best of Opposite win.

To top off the weekend, Gunnar made the cut in the group ring both days!! This boy is really maturing and starting to get recognized!

Gunnar, Gabi and I went down to Houston for the World Series of Dog Shows held at Reliant Center. This is a huge event with the Texas Gulf Coast Vizsla Club Specialty on Thursday, followed by three days of all breed shows. Gabi just came down for the ride and to keep Gunnar company! While Gunnar showed well for me all four days, he was recognized by the judges on two days.

He had a HUGE Best of Breed win on Friday, winning over the #1 and #4 dog in the country along with other very nice specials in the ring! And on Saturday he took Best of Opposite to the #1 dog.  Needless to say, I was so very happy and proud of my boy!

Gunnar is now home for good from bird dog camp! He got to relax and get back in the groove of being at home for a couple of weeks and then it’s back to work in the show ring! We showed at the Dallas show this past weekend with some tough competition – one dog in the top ten and another in the top 25! Well, Gunnar showed very well all three days for me, and showed he can compete too by going Best of Breed on Saturday!! It was a very nice win for us!!

Today is Gabi’s 4th birthday! I can’t believe how fast time has gone! Gabi is the sole reason I’m so involved in all this dog “stuff” – Conformation, Rally, Hunt Tests, Field Trials, and now Agility!! Thank you Gabi for keeping life fun and always interesting! She is an amazing girl that continues to amaze Shawn and I. She has taught us so much…just like Shawn remembered, he showed up at her first Hunt Test wearing shorts and sandals! LOL!! Boy have lessons been learned! We love you Gabi!!
